Naval Intelligence reports approximately 1200 Cubans left Havana this morning. Approximately 700 turned back due to severe weather, some 350 are missing and presumed dead, 137 have been taken into custody in Miami and are seeking asylum.Above is from the pilot episode of my favorite show which I had to watch again tonight after I was thinking about this quote all day.
With the clothes on their backs, they came through a storm. And the ones that didn’t die want a better life. And they want it here. Talk about impressive. My point is this: Break’s over.
Though the theatre is hardly the life and death equivalent of trying to travel from Cuba to America in a raft (as described above), it is a profession that countless millions enter into each year. That an approximate "many" turn back from due to "severe weather," with "some" watching dreams die forever. A blessed few are fortunate enough to be "taken into" organizations in New York where they are so eagerly "seeking" a foothold.
"They" want it here, in New York, in this profession. "Their" constant pursuit is impressive. And the point is the same. Be thankful you're here, remember why you're here and what you get to do every day.
And this: Break's over.
